Unfit for Fluffy or Fido Consumption!
I fear the length of this list - and I have not even started to look for things to put on it!
Items ending up in our pets foods that find their way into bags or cans by 'mistake'
Mistake my ass...more like negligence and a lack of sanitary conditions - proper wages, careless employees, careless companies, sometimes even careless countries.
Items intentionally added to pet foods to adulterate the levels of protein or other ingredients needed to meet certain guidelines.
Items carelessly added to pet foods - that companies are aware of, but continue to do.
China - you are first on my list for examination
Have you ever added or adulterated an ingredient in order to inflate the protein content?
-Noo never!
Really?
-Okay a few times.
Sorry. Our bad.
(not a real conversation)
Starting in March 2007 - a mass pet food recall was issued.
By the end of the recall more than 5000 pet food products had been recalled
The number of deaths or illnesses attributed to this contamination varies - since there is no central database for these incidences - due to the number of products I suspect the total will probably never be known.
So what happened?
Greed happened.
Inexpensive materials were used to inflate the apparent protein content of products, so that inexpensive ingredients can pass for more expensive, concentrated proteins.
Several Chinese companies sold what was thought to be Wheat Gluten, Rice Protein, & Corn Gluten - It was actually Wheat Flour contaminated with Melamine, Cyanuric Acid, Ammeline, & Ammelide.
Melamine (2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine) is a heterocyclic compound containing 6 atoms of nitrogen. As a result of its composition, it contains 66% nitrogen in its molecule. It is a raw material in the production of plastics, pesticides, cleaning agents, fertilizers and many other products, e.g. melamine resin.
Cyanuric acid (1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triol (CNOH)3) – is a cyclic trimer of hydrocyanic acid (HOCN). It is a white crystalline substance produced by thermal decomposition of urea under defined conditions. It can also be obtained by hydrolysis of melamine. It is a component in various disinfectants, herbicides and bleaching agents.
Melamine & Cyanuric Acid combined - Testing on Cats - dosed with both - were euthanized due to acute renal failure ( technically due to jackasses using them for testing)
Ammeline (4,6-Diamino-2-hydroxy-1,3,5-triazine)
Ammelide (6-Amino-2,4-Dihydroxy-1,3,5-Triazine)
Both have close association to melamine.
pdf about all of them
- The Chinese government responded on 4 April by denying any connection to the North American food poisonings.
- The government allowed finally took responsibility for their negligent actions - contributing the contamination to two protein manufactures.

Something you may not be aware of - or may not want to know...
Euthanized Animals have also been found in pet foods.
I spoke before about this, and the 4D's
Phenobarbital - the drug used to euthanize animals - has been found in pet foods.
Though some companies are trying to state they have done DNA tests trying to located the presence of Dog or Cat.. this is not possible to detect.
They can tell you that they did not find Cat or Dog DNA - and they are telling you the truth - because technically they did not find any.

Since there is no way to know what is in your pets food - you have to trust the company of the product you are choosing to feed toy our pet.
Research the companies - email them - call them - question them.
In many cases it is quite possible the companies themselves are unaware of what is in their food.
Companies that out source their ingredients from places that they do not have control over
Companies that out source to Countries known for being jerks!
Companies that have proven themselves not to be trustworthy.
There are companies out there that are respectable - that seem to have a higher knowledge of what is in their foods.
They seem to actually care about the welfare of your beloved pets.
That is your homework.
I am not going to list any because this should be something you do for your pets safety.
Also I do not want to list a Company and be wrong...
With this I will end my horrible list.
And I will add pictures of happy animals!!!
Happy Husky
