Pet Food Ingredients - R - Rice

R

Rice

Rice is a seed of the Monocot plants.
It is considered a Cereal Grain.

There are many forms of rice used in pet foods.

Brewers Rice
Brown Rice
Rice(Hulls) Bran
Rice Flour
Rice Gluten
Rice Meal
Rice Protein Concentrate
White ( Milled ) Rice
Whole Grain Rice

Rice and Rice products contain Arsenic
What is Arsenic?

Apparently Brown Rice has a higher concentration of Arsenic than White Rice.
Rice Bran also is stated to have a higher concentration. Consumer Report

Is this bad?

FDA has advised us to diversify our grains. Consumer Report

 Cuz, why not?

What does this mean for Fluffy and Fido?
I dunno? - go grain free.

Other than that pesky arsenic, rice looks rather healthy.

Question : Can cats digest Rice?
Answer: Yes.

What?

Well that screws my theory.

What was my theory?

That companies were aware rice was not good for cats but they were using it any ways because it was a cheap filler.

Golly! I was right.. technically for the wrong reason...but still right!

It is okay to give your Cats rice now and then - I have used it for cats with digestive issues - It slows down the tides... so to speak.

A little pumpkin, a little rice...helps the tummy to feel nice.

Wow that was a horrific display of rhyming.
I feel like I need a wand to tap something after saying that.
