14 Days Till Christmas

WHEN YOU GOTTA GO...YOU GOTTA GO!

So you are planning on having guests over for the holidays.
Just before you serve your food you see Fluffy strolling over to her litter box.
Fluffy!!
Hey, she had to go!

Issues

Litter Trail
Location

On a normal day you look over and see the litter box and think.. yuck!
On a day where you have a bunch of people over who are judging your existence..and possibly your cat filled life... You think.. Crap!

How in the hell am I going to hide this thing.
Why do they have to use the bathroom in a friggen box!

Because it's in their nature to bury their waste and we have given them a location to do so.
Captain obvious .

How about we look at different types of litter boxes and different types of litter!

Maybe there is a way to conceal your true identity as a crazy cat person..
Though once you respond to your cat meowing - the jig is up.. they know.

Below is a list of various boxes, I have given them  my own names because it amuses me to do so.
************
The Basics

Here we have your no frills Basic Litter Box - price range is about $2 to $20 - depending of course on the place you buy it from and what the box its self is made of.
I have many of these. They are cheap, easy to clean and easy to move from room to room or to use at adoptions.
On its own it offers zero privacy for Fluffy.
It also offers no scent reduction and you know exactly what it is when you see it.
Price - 10/10
Ease of use - 10/10
Privacy  - 0/10
Visual Appeal - 1/10
Scent Reduction - 0/10
Score 21/50

Next in line is the basic Hooded Litter Box. Ranging from $12 - $40
The lid comes off to allow for easier access for cleaning.
There is a filter in the top of the hood...that nobody ever actually replaces.
This unit is easier to carry - until the clip breaks.. then it's just awkward.
There is a sense of privacy for Fluffy, and you do not have to see kitty in action.
There is no way to hide that this is a litter box - on its own.
It can be big and bulky and some cats refuse to use hooded boxes.
Good thing about these boxes is that you can remove the hood and just have a high sided litter box.

Price - 9/10
Ease of use - 10/10
Privacy  - 8/10
Visual Appeal - 4/10
Scent Reduction - 4/10
Score 35/50

Here we have the Combo Litter Box
I like this box, it gives the privacy of the high sides without the actual hood.
It works rather well, and is a deep box, you can use without the sides if needed.
The cost is between $17 - $25
Of course it leaves the litter in full view for guests.. yippy.

Price - 9/10
Ease of use - 10/10
Privacy  - 7/10
Visual Appeal - 3/10
Scent Reduction - 2/10
Score 31/50

Mechanical Litter boxes

The Kitty Toilet
I have never owned one of these - or any kind of self cleaning litter boxes.
This one looks really interesting.
I like the design. Would a cat like it?
I think the fear is that a kitty would be using the thing and it would start to clean - freaking out Fluffy.
Last thing you need is a cat that is afraid of the litter box!!
This box has a hose that you hook to your sink or toilet and ... I need to read more..

 Or watch a video!

Weird.

Price 4/10 - It's like $230.00 not including the cost of the cartridges. But you never have to buy litter
Ease of use - 6/10 - I just lack trust.
Privacy - 6/10
Visual Appeal - 10/10 - Only problem is your guests will all want to see it!

Scent Reduction 10/10
Score 36/50

The Rake
Looks like a barbie swimming pool.
Such pretty blue litter.
Too small
Costs too much
It has a 20 min timer from when your cat uses it to when it rakes. So the scent will remain for 20 min at least. If another cat enters the box - the timer is reset. In my house the thing would never go off!
You can't use any litter, you have to use the blue crystal pre-loaded boxes. - which if you have 4 or more cats you will go though 1 a week - or if you have kittens, or older cats or cats will health issues.
Around $150 for the box and $18 for the litter crystal pre-loaded thingies.

Price - 3/10
Ease of use - 4/10
Privacy  - 2/10
Visual Appeal - 4/10
Scent Reduction - 2/10
Score 15/50

I was going to add the Litter Robot but its just dumb. Sorry.. but here is a picture of it..

Rollin...
Here we have the Rolling Litter Box - you roll it to clean it.. it does not roll its self..
The unit is large, but not too big.
There looks to be enough room for Fluffy to get in.. move around..and get out.
The price is not bad, and you can use any clumping litter you like.
This is only good for the normal humans with 1 or 2 cats.

Here is a video of how it works.

Price - 9/10
Ease of use - 8/10
Privacy  - 7/10
Visual Appeal - 5/10
Scent Reduction - 5/10
Score 34/50

The Modern Kitty

The Stairway I know it's basically useless for adult cats, sure it's big but the size of the box inside is not all that adult kitty friendly.
But.. I still want it!
I don't even know if a cat would want to use it.. still think it's awesome.
Not sure why.. but I like it.
Price is not bad, normal for a litter box - maybe a bit more $35 - $45
The design is the only thing it has going for it.
The stairs will trap all those wonderful bits of litter that kitty seems to trail around with.
This is a great size for a kitten.
I realize kittens grow.. but I foster so I always have kittens... though this would probably end up being a bed..

Price - 7/10
Ease of use - 10/10
Privacy  - 8/10
Visual Appeal - 10/10
Scent Reduction - 5/10
Score 40/50

Well cats do like boxes..

The Box Interesting.
Will not work for kittens, or some senior kitties.
I would love to set this up and see if any of the kitties would use it.
I honestly have no idea how this would go over with them.
I have no opinion.. other then the one about the kittens and senior kitties.

Price - 6/10 - Is close to $50
Ease of use - 7/10- Unless your old or young
Privacy  - 8/10
Visual Appeal - 8/10
Scent Reduction - 4/10
Score 33/50

Hide and Seek

The Planter This is rather ingenious.
Looks like a planter, turn it around so the opening is facing the wall.
Nobody would know! Until kitty uses it.. but that's unavoidable.
It's not cheap, but it doubles as decoration.
There is plenty of room for a big kitty, and you can use what ever litter you like!

Price - 6/10 - $100 - $120
Ease of use - 10/10
Privacy  - 9/10
Visual Appeal - 10/10
Scent Reduction - 6/10
Score 41/50

The Useful Box
I kinda like the looks of this one.
You can use any box you want, any litter you want.
If you have space in your bathroom this would fit right in!
The price is doable considering it is also basically a night stand.
I like it.

Price - 8/10 - $90 - $130
Ease of use - 10/10
Privacy  - 9/10
Visual Appeal - 10/10
Scent Reduction - 6/10
Score 41/50

So who wins?
For me - First place goes to

 The Planter
It is nice to look at and hides what is actually going on.
 Second Place goes to
The Useful Box ( not actually its name)
Not horribly expensive, and looks good.
Can be used as a night stand or table as well.

Third Place goes to
The Stairway..
Because I think it looks cool
That's basically the only reason.

The cats would like to hear from the humans.
