I honestly believe that any animal can lose weight if you feed it a small enough amount of food.

• If you are changing over from a free feeding situation - to a measured amount of food per day - Fluffy is gonna drop a few pounds.

The same goes for maintenance - once Fluffy starts eating for its size.

What does that even mean?

• The pet food industry has no legal term for 'Holistic' .

What is the general definition of Holistic?

- Things studied as a whole, not just as a sum of their parts.
- Holistic Health refers to the whole person. Not just the illness its self.

I personally consider holistic to mean free of unhealthy chemicals and by products - in regards to pet food.

Apparently, Science Diet and I deffer in our explanations. 

If you are going to restrict the calories of you cat, you may want to do a dry and wet mix. Not mixed together, just have both. 
Maybe dry in the morning and wet at night. 

You can find feeding guidelines online. Or just Split the dry and wet amounts in half possibly? 

A good dry food, in my opinion would be a high protein grain free like:

A good wet food, in my opinion would also be a high protein grain free food like:

You want your fur child to drop some pounds - you do not want other aspects of their lives compromised by limiting the important ingredients.

There are generally not a lot of high quality pet foods that list a weight management or 'diet' version of their food. This is probably for the same reason they are - all life stages - 

I was surprised to see a weight management version of Instinct. 
I get suspicious when I see things like that. 

At the same time - the general population has not caught up to the idea of not needing all of these different special foods. 

If Mr Smith really likes Instinct, but needs to get a weight management version because their new adopted fur child is slightly fluffier than normal.
 Maybe the place that he adopted Mcflufferson from stated that he needed to be on a weight controlled diet - I get it... the companies are having to conform to our lack of knowledge - for now.  

Just remember - you are not helping Fluffy by filling him with crap. Or crap by products.

First off - These issues are basically food related - I blame us.
Due to our lack of knowledge - and the pet food industries fantastic effort to make as much money as possible ...
Dry food was created.

Is dry food bad?
Yes and no.
Having a mix of dry and wet is okay. 
Only dry is not as okay.

In regards to dealing with FLUTD or other urinary issues - Dry food bad. 

Wet food Good

Our meows - as smart as they may be - do not drink enough water. Even if the bowl is right there in front of them - like right under their noses.
They are in a mild state of dehydration on a constant basis when they are fed only dry food. 


That is not healthy in general - and does not aid in a healthy urinary tract. 

Secondly - CATS ARE CARNIVORES. 
They are not OMNIVORES.
They are absolutely not HERBIVORES.

STOP FORCING FLUFFY TO EAT CORN FLAKES AND RICE CRISPIES   
 (by that I mean corn and various other grains)

A small amount of veggies are okay - but leave the salads for the Bunnies.

This causes changes in the PH levels - so stop it.

So what should you look for in a food?

Canned - I am only showing wet food because I don't care if Fluffy likes dry - Fluffy likes to eat Tinsel - stop listening to Fluffy.

That does not seem to be listed in the General Analysis - so you may have to email the company.

Start adding wet food to your cats diet now - okay tomorrow, unless feeding your cat at 1 am is normal...

Have you ever seen a fat panther? 

Yes house cats lead a much more sedentary life.

There are so many pet food brands out there that have products dedicated to over weight animals. 

Those same brands could be the ones generally causing the weight gain with their carbohydrate loaded, unhealthy fat harboring foods!

Again it's like selling a salad at a Fast Food Joint. 

Except these 'salads' are the ones filled with rice and a big ole cob of corn.

But the wrap is flavoured and coloured.

This was a rather confusing search. I kept reading about the wonderful protein available from a protein isolate. 

• We are talking like 90%

Well that is fantastic! 

Except - after being led down a dark hallway.. under the stairs and into an old box of files ( metaphorically speaking )

• I found that using a protein isolate is not a healthy way to get protein. 

• We need a balance - you have to get the fat intake you would get from eating actual meat. 

• Also - chances are that during the process of creating this isolate - MSG can also be created.

• The heating process also basically  kills off the nutrients of the protein as well. Even in the types that say - low heat - it can still kill off some of the nutrients, leaving it useless or semi useless powder. 

Chicken Liver Flavor can not be truly considered- by most humans with a brain - as a source of protein.


Okay this is just getting long and annoying  - lets check the calories

Directions for a 10 lb cat for weight loss - 3/8 cup or 1/2 cup for weight control 

Wellness Core Indoor  - 391 a cup
7-10 lb - 1/2 cup to 2/3 cup 
No direction for weight loss because this is not a weight loss food - it's simply a food.

• A problem could be with your pet not wanting to eat - so regardless of what you find him - it will not help unless he eats it. 

• If you have a food you know he will eat - but it has some of those bad carbs  - split the difference 

Get a can that does not have any and mix it in with the can he already likes. 

Warm it up a little ( just a bit )

• Try and make it as appealing as possible - and in an environment that is as calm as possible. 

There are anti nausea medications available - talk to your vet about these and supplements. 

When it comes to medical issues - like this or any disease - learn as much as possible in regards to nutrition. 

You can't seem to avoid Cancer - it's everywhere. It seems to be in everything!

You can however, give your dog the best chance at fighting these battles.
